[REVIEW] One Eighteenth Coffee

//

Good afternoon from my workspace!
Today I'm gonna review a new cafe in Surabaya called One Eighteenth Coffee.
Everything I review later is based on my personal taste and perspective, so I think it will be 30% subjective and 70% objective.

ONE EIGHTEENTH COFFEE is the latest cafe in Surabaya. Established in the early 2015 (around April or May I think cmiiw), owned by Richard who previously was a Informatics Technic student in Petra Christian University, Surabaya. One of my community's member is his classmate, so I knew it well. *peace*

The building is easy to find if you know Southern Surabaya very well. It is located at Jl. Siwalankerto 118 (now you know why they named it One Eighteenth Coffee), opposite of Petra Christian University T Building, besides Circle K. To get there, you can drive from Frontage Ahmad Yani, but it will be easier if you catch it from Jl. Kutisari because the building is on the road to Frontage Ahmad Yani and it is a little hard to turn around. Also, the best way to get there is walking or riding a motorbike, because the park is a little bit small. Once you get there, you can see a big board with their name in it and a two-floor cafe with nature-look terrace, so it is noticeable.

Getting into the cafe, you can feel the warmest welcome and see 'so-coffee-addict' theme in every corner of the cafe. The pictures, wall-murals, they are all related to coffee. They also give a little touch of 'earth-ornament' such as wooden floor and leaves terra-lice.

Sorry for my friend's photobomb

They give two options of ordering, either you order first on the cashier desk then take a seat or you find the seat first then you ask the waiter to write your order. They have lots of food and drink menus you can try. They have cakes (Red Velvet, Choco Lava, Pie in Jar, etc.), Pasta (Beef Lasagna, Spaghetti Bolognese), savoury bites, lattes (you can enjoy it hot or cold), non-coffee blended, tea and their specialty is (absolutely) coffee! The cost of each menu is affordable, around 15k - 30k rupiahs (include tax). Last night I ordered Spaghetti Bolognese (I hadn't had dinner yet) and Cookies and Cream Blended. They both cost 28k. Why don't order coffee? Well, I'd love to, but it's already near to my bed time, so I choose not to drink coffee. Here are their appearances.

Review:

- Food and Drink
Spaghetti Bolognese is good! Their size is not too small so it is enough for my worm-belly. The sauce is rich, meaty, and has lots of onions (my sister would really hate this), but a little too sour for me. The pasta itself is al dente, not too tender. It is tasty.
Cookies and Cream Blended is also good. Not too sweet, not too much ice (this is the real blended dude! You are paying for blended not shaving ice only), very milky, and I can taste the Oreo Cookie very well.

- Price
For a student like me (since they are located in the university and boarding house area), it is still affordable

- Place & Atmosphere
It is quite big and great for hanging out with friends or doing the assignments. A good choice to take tons of selfies, tho. (I proved it! Haha!) It is very comfortable to sit for a long time. They even provide big sofas! Slee------chit chat time!

- Service
I took the second option of ordering (take a seat first then order through waiter). Err....... I think the waiters are still newbie because they can't explain the menu very well. Fortunately, the front desk (a.k.a the co-owner) is friendly and they have good welcome to us.

- Serving Time
The timing is good. I only waited for around 15 minutes.

Overall:
One Eighteenth Coffee is a perfect place for hanging out, chit chat, casual-meeting, or doing projects if you are around Southern Surabaya. They can be an alternative for coffee-addicts and cafe-nerds.

Additional?
Since Jl. Siwalankerto is very 'jamming' (almost all phone signals are gone to nowhere), (fortunately) they give free (locked) WiFi. Ask the waiter for the password, but don't be too surprised because they will give you a 'very unique' password (hint). The connection is good, tho (it might be because there's no one when I was having dinner.)

Soooo......... there's I can tell about One Eighteenth Coffee. A little bit long post, but I hope I've explained it very well. You can put it in one of your hang-out list when you're in Southern Surabaya, especially at Petra Christian University area. Thank you for reading, and if you want me to review your cafe or food/drink, please comment below!
